Wanarn Campus
The Wanarn community
Like other small communities in this region most of its older residents used to live on the Warburton Mission. In the 1960s some moved to the Docker River settlement across the border with the Northern Territory. Ngaanyatjarra people originally used present day Wanarn as a campsite when they travelled on the road developed in the 1970’s to provide easier access between Warburton, Warakurna and Docker River. Kungkarungkalpa, or the Seven Sisters Tjukurrpa, is very significant throughout this area.
A 15-bed aged care facility has been established in Wanarn that is managed by Ngaanyatjarra Health Service. It provides a home for a number of residents aged between 61 and 93 years of age requiring both high and lower levels of care. The facility allows frail older people to remain on the Ngaanyatjarra Lands.
The community was incorporated in 1989.
